Our Tesco year gets off to a flying start!

Wednesday 4 March 2009

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign was officially announced as Tesco Charity of the Year 2009 as Charity President Sue Barker MBE flew the partnership kite at the national launch event at Tesco's flagship Kensington store.

President of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Sue Barker MBE and Tesco Executive Director Lucy Neville-Rolfe launch the partnership with staff and families.

Sue was joined by Tesco Executive Director, Lucy Neville-Rolfe, and Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Chief Executive Philip Butcher as they met the Baker children - Hannah, Karla and Lewis - from Wiltshire and North Londoner Ronak Patel, all of whom are supported by the charity.

Announcing the partnership, Sue said:

Muscular dystrophy is a devastating condition. It affects all the muscles in the body, including the heart and lungs.

Working with Tesco will allow us to improve the lives of many children across the country by providing them with the equipment they so desperately need.

I would like to wish all Tesco's staff and customers good luck in their fundraising events this year, it will mean so much to the families affected by muscular dystrophy all over the UK.

Muscular Dystrophy Campaign staff were also out in force launching the partnership across the rest of the country this week with a further 32 regional launches from Truro to Dundee. Kitted out in bright orange, local families and Tesco staff were flying our kites to announce the start of our Tesco fundraising year!
