P...p...p...pick up a penguin!
Thursday 23 April 2009
The Tesco Havant superstore has hit the headlines with a unique penguin auction to raise money for the Giving children equipment to be independent campaign.
With the store closing down to be rebuilt on the same spot, the ten model penguins which have been living above the frozen food section for 11 years desperately needed new homes to go to.
The infamous penguins proved such a hit with the store's loyal customers that Store Manager Nick Isaac had to set up an auction hotline to deal with the sheer volume of bids!
After a frenzied bidding process, the auction raised a fantastic £1,500 for children living in Hampshire with muscular dystrophy with a top winning bid of £250 for a penguin!
