Tesco staff gunning for funds!
Friday 10 July 2009
In one of the biggest single events the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Charity of the Year
partnership so far, Tesco staff and suppliers took their best shot to raise an incredible £57,000 in the fourth annual Network Development Charity Clay Pigeon Shoot held in Leicestershire.
125 competitors took part in the keenly fought shooting contest with the team from Laweco running out the victors. Following a long day's shooting, the teams then did battle in the evening's charity auction. The top lot, which raised an impressive £2,000, was an incredible week's holiday in the Greek islands aboard a 44ft yacht. Other top prizes selling for 4-figure sums included an ultimate driving experience and tickets to every event on golf's European Tour, helping the auction to raise a total of nearly £6,000.
Also attending the event were local 14-year-old Harry Watson, who has Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy, and after-dinner speakers Jane and Mark Field, who spoke about their experiences of looking after their son, 11-year-old Murray, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Harry Watson, attending the event, said:
I think it's really good that Tesco are helping to raise lots of money so that children, like me, living with muscular dystrophy can have better equipment to do things on our own like other people our age!
Event organiser and Tesco Project Manager Jeremy Church said:
The event went fantastically well and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. The competition and the auction room were both fiercely contested but I'm delighted we could raise so much money so that the real winners at the end of the day were the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and the children who need this vital equipment.
