Sue Barker starts Tesco staff on charity cycle
Tuesday 8 September 2009
Two Tesco Distribution Centre staff saddled up for a bicycle marathon this weekend to raise over £1,000 for the Giving children equipment to be independent campaign - with a little help from Question of Sport host Sue Barker.
BBC presenter and Muscular Dystrophy Campaign President Sue Barker met Dave Green from Northampton and Glenn Jeffery from Milton Keynes, who both work as Night Shift Team Managers at the Tesco Distribution Centre in Daventry, and started them off on their pedal powered 150 mile journey from the charity's national conference in Bradford back to Daventry.
Beginning their journey shortly after 1pm on Saturday, Dave and Glenn clocked up 92 miles in six hours for the first leg of the journey as they reached their mid-way point of Nottingham. The following morning, despite feeling more than a bit saddle sore, the boys racked up a further 58 miles - arriving back to Daventry just in time to head back into work for their night shift!
Sue Barker MBE, Muscular Dystrophy Campaign President, said:
I'm amazed by the incredible challenge that Dave and Glenn have taken on to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign - especially considering they had to head into work as soon as they got off their bikes!
It's wonderful to see the endless enthusiasm of Tesco staff as they take on a huge range of fundraising challenges and events to raise money for children with muscular dystrophy and related muscle-wasting diseases.
Charity cyclist Dave Green said:
I'm utterly exhausted and feeling fairly tender now, but we had a great weekend. For Sue Barker to take time out from her busy day to see us off was a fantastic way to start our journey and I feel really proud to have achieved my challenge and raise so much money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
A huge congratulations to Dave and Glenn for their marathon effort!
