Distribution staff’s charity fun in the sun

Tuesday 13 October 2009

Staff from the Fresh Stream Distribution Centres joined forces for a family fun day at Hinckley Harry and Elliot line up with the event organisersUnited Football Ground in the East Midlands to raise an incredible £21,600 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

In gloriously sunny weather, the Distribution Centres went head-to-head in a 5-a-side football competition, tug of war and various games and races, with the team from Middleton eventually crowned the champions.

Local boys Elliot Mears (age 9) and Harry Watson (14) from Leicestershire, who both have forms of muscular dystrophy, were the guests of honour at the event, drawing raffle prizes at the end of the day and meeting many of the staff.

Tesco Fresh Stream Distribution Director Jurrien Heynen said:

Everyone had a great time at the fun day and it was lovely to see so many of our staff from across the country turning up with their families.

It was a real pleasure to meet Elliot and Harry, and I'm absolutely delighted that we managed to raise so much money to help children like them.

Doncaster Distribution Centre General Manager Andy Roper said:

I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to organise and support the day.
