X Factor's Lucie is Joe's Christmas angel!

Tuesday 1 December 2009

X Factor star Lucie Jones proved to be a real angel as she made a young boy's dreams come true. The Welsh songstress, who was controversially voted off the X Factor, made Christmas come early for 11-year-old Joe Gooch by presenting him with a life-changing powered wheelchair on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and Tesco.

Kind-hearted Lucie chose to support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign after meeting a group of children with muscle-wasting disease on the X Factor set. After hearing the youngster's stories she was so touched that she offered to help the charity in any way she could.

Joe, from Brentwood in Essex, has a severe form of muscular dystrophy and has received a new £17,000 powered wheelchair as a result of the fundraising efforts of Tesco staff in Essex through the Charity of the Year partnership. Thanks to them, Joe will now have the independence that will allow him to play with friends and go to school like any other child his age.

X Factor's Lucie Jones said:

It was lovely to meet Joe and I was really delighted to be able to give him his new wheelchair. It's an amazing piece of equipment that will mean he can do what other 11-year-olds do. I hope that everyone goes to their nearest Tesco to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign that will help hundreds of other children across the country.

11-year-old Joe Gooch said:

I'm Lucie's biggest fan and I couldn't believe I got the chance to meet her - I was so excited when she walked through the door! My new wheelchair is the best Christmas present I could ever wish for and Lucie is my Christmas angel for coming along to give it to me.
