Shop floor Atlantic adventure

Tuesday 26 January 2010

Tesco staff from across South Wales and South West England embarked on an Atlantic Adventure from the safety of their own stores to raise an incredible £20,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Staff racked up a combined 3,000 miles as they rowed from New York to Cornwall on rowing machines stationed in the 20 Extra stores of Group 102.

Local communities got involved in their epic challenge, with fire fighters, police forces, cheerleaders, football teams, rugby clubs and even a local army regiment all taking a shift to help out. Battling breathlessness, bad backs and blisters, the teams had a great time in conquering the exhausting challenge. The staff from Llanelli were the top performers, racking up 234 miles to raise £2,300 over the course of two days.

The group has now raised a spectacular total of £70,000 across the year, all of which will provide life-changing equipment for local children with muscle-wasting disease.

Staff are now gearing up for a treadmill run to London on the weekend of April 25 to support their charity co-ordinator Paul Groves, who will be tackling the world's most famous marathon in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign on that day.
