Our partnership
As Tesco Charity of the Year 2009 we raised £5.6 million to fund vital, specialist equipment for children across the UK with muscular dystrophy or a related muscle disease - smashing the original £3 million target.
Giving children equipment to be independent
Much of the equipment needed by children with muscular dystrophy costs a lot of money. The Tesco Giving children equipment to be independent campaign is providing over 800 children across the UK with the vital equipment needed to give them greater independence and improve their day-to-day lives.
The money raised by Tesco staff and customers during the partnership will provide some of the following pieces of equipment:
Specialist equipment |
Cost |
| Powered wheelchairs | Up to £27,000 |
| Adapted computers | £5,000 |
| Electric beds | £4,000 |
| Therapy equipment such as exercise machines and standing frames | £3,700 |
| Portable aids such as door openers, page turners, portable hoists and folding ramps | Up to £3,500 |
| Mobile arm supports | £2,000 |
| Riser chairs | £1,600 |
| Electric trikes | £900 |
